Intertwining Paths

Recently I was asked to participate in a traveling quilt exhibit called “Quilt as Desired” and organized by Mary Kerr. Mary selected 24 vintage quilt tops and asked longarm quilters to give these tops a new life. Though I was a little tardy in getting my quilting finished, I finally completed the job. (If you click on the image it will enlarge.)  Below is my Quilter’s Statement:

"My goal was to take this circa 30’s Dresden Plate quilt top and finish it using all the tools and techniques of modern quilting. I attempted to utilize the play of positive and negative space with the bubble fill so that the viewer could see a different interaction between the plates. With the circular feathers around each plate I wanted to make the plates look floral. Using a modern intertwined curvy crosshatch in the centers, I hoped to achieve the feeling that is invoked whenever I quilt a quilt of an unknown quilt maker. Who was she and what motivated her to make this top? Why didn’t she finish it? Somehow, our lives have now touched and will live into another generation."

I hope you have to opportunity to view this exhibit at a show near you.  I will make my digital design set available in the store soon.

Happy Quilting!
